Freeman Brothers operates Hills Cemetery Chapel on behalf of Horsham District Council and has refurbished it to the highest standards. Its flexible layout enables it to be used as both a traditional service venue (with seating for up to 50 people) and a more intimate space for smaller congregations.

As part of the Chapel’s refurbishment, we have installed an Obitus music system, equivalent to that available in many crematoria.

The many features of this system include:

• a wide choice of music. Any piece of music that is commercially available should be available to be played on the state-of-the-art digital system, with music included in the standard charge for use of the Chapel.
• hymn tunes to accompany congregational singing. The music system has a range of familiar hymns to sing to, including versions with a simple organ accompaniment or those with organ and choir.
• a display screen. Included in the standard charge for the use of the Chapel is the ability to display one photo on the screen, either throughout the service or at a time of your choosing.
• a photo montage facility. For a nominal additional charge, there are various options for displaying montages of photographs, at your chosen time during the service.
• webcasting. The funeral service can be broadcast live via the internet or you can also choose to be able to re-watch and download later. Additional fees apply.

The coffin will be brought to the chapel prior to the service, so it is ready when the congregation arrives, and will be returned to our premises afterwards. The person who has died is then conveyed to Worthing Crematorium – typically at a day and time of Freeman Brothers’ choosing – shortly after the service.

This packaged service provides the convenience of a local funeral, featuring the music and webcasting facilities you would find in a crematorium chapel, with the added benefit of a longer service time. It is also more cost-effective than our equivalent traditional funeral for a service at Worthing Crematorium.

Our fee is comprised of a number of elements that include a service charge, the cost of the coffin, transport to and from the cemetery chapel and to the crematorium, the requisite staff, use of the chapel and the Chapel Attendant.
